Thanks to Michael Jordan’s Insecurities, We’re Getting a 20 Year Old Documentary

Yep, title basically says it all.

I read an article the other day from Ramona Shelburne, discussing how the MJ doc finally came to fruition:

It was a well written piece, and I’m actually a big fan of Ramona. I am, however, not a fan of MJ. Not one bit. Like every millennial, I know that there are guys such as Bron, Kobe, and Caruso, who are much better basketball players than MJ ever was.

Plumbers, electricians, garbage men. These are the people who MJ was playing against in the 90s. And it’s a damn shame that we compare this soft era to the current league.

Anyways, the point of this article is to talk about the documentary coming out tonight. I don’t even know the name of it, nor do I really care, but MJ wants the spotlight back on him. He’s been out of the league for like 20 years, and there’s many players who have challenged his GOAT status since he left. The biggest threat to MJ has either been LeBron or Kobe, but seeing as Kobe had a very similar play style, many consider the Mamba to be a tier below Michael. That’s ESPN’s words, not mine.

Just from my own observation, I don’t think MJ ever felt threatened by Kobe. He certainly feels the heat from LeBron though (No Miami pun intended). When Bron passed MJ for Total Points, you know damn well MJ didn’t reach out to congratulate him. And why would he? He was probably in disgust, throwing poker chips around the house or something.

I’m not going to get into all of the personal problems that MJ has. We’ve heard stories about his gambling, problems with his ex-wife, anger towards his teammates. (Those are all traits of a “winner” right?) But I think the biggest issue with MJ is his insecurity. He wants the spotlight on him, even though he is completely irrelevant.

This dude is so arrogant that he waited for the next best player to come around. And once LeBron became a true threat for the GOAT debate, Jordan felt that he needed to remind the world of his own greatness. As Ramona shared in her article, it wasn’t until June 2016 when Michael decided to go through with the documentary. You want to know why? That same month is when LeBron had just surpassed Michael as the greatest ever. He had just defeated a 73 win Warrior team, something MJ would never be capable of doing.

We all get jealous, I get it. And we all want attention. But this move from MJ is Kanye-level. The dude really needs his ego stroked.

All in all, the entire move is a money grab for ESPN, and it’s an opportunity for millennials like myself to see what Michael Jordan was actually like as a player. I know I’ve been bashing the guy, but who knows, maybe I’ll switch my stance on who the GOAT is. At least Twitter will have something to talk about.

And for now, I can thank MJ for his insecurities, arrogance, giant ego, you name it. Thanks to him, we are getting a 20 year old documentary that nobody really asked for.
